Follow these easy steps to create your next reading test.
1. Create Assessment
Click on the Assessments tab at the top. Then under Create, select New Assessment.
2. Create Passage
The form for creating a reading passage and sub-items is shown below. Sub-items are the questions that are associated with the passage. First, copy and paste or write the passage into the stem. Then you can (A) create new sub-items for the passage or (B) search for items to make them sub-items in the passage.
(A) Save and create a…….
The first option is to create new sub-items for the passage. Hover over “Save and create a” to save your passage and to create a new sub-item of your choice to be part of the passage. When you hover over this button, it will allow you to select the item type of your choice. You will now be brought to the creation page for that item type. In the example below, we are creating a new True/False sub-item to be part of the passage.
Once you have completed creating this sub-item, you can create another sub-item by again clicking on the “Save and create a" button. This will again save your passage and the sub-item you just created and take you to a new screen to create a new sub-item. If you have no more sub-items to create, you can then click on the "Save and add to test” button to save the passage and sub-items and put them on your test.
(B) Searching items for your passage
The second option is to search for items that you may have already created and attach those as sub-items to the passage. To search for items, simply click Search. A pop out box, shown below, will appear. Within the search box, you will have the ability to search by Stem, Choice text, Tags, Type, Subject, Subject, among other things. Once a search has been completed, any items with the characteristics you chose will populate at the bottom of the search box. Click on the item to view it in another tab, or click the check box to add it to your passage.
