Importing a test in text (Quia) Format

Last Updated: Jul 15, 2016 10:42AM CDT
Another quick and easy way to create a test in Naiku is to import it from a .txt file.  If you use Quia, you can export those tests out as text files. Then you can import those into Naiku. Alternatively, you can simply create a new test in this text format and import it into Naiku.

Here's what you need to know about the file format.

1. The different item formats and their 2 letter codes are:
  • multiple-choice: mc
  • true-false: tf
  • fill-in: fi
  • matching: ma
  • essay: es

2. Here is an example test file written in text (txt) format. Be sure to use a text editor and save the file as a Unicode (UTF-8) format.

------------Sample file starts here: Copy everything below this line into a text editor
mc
What is the capital of Laos?
Bangkok
Tokyo
*Vientiane

mc
Which of these are Asian countries?
Italy
*Vietnam
*Laos
*India
France

tf

ma

-------------Sample file ends here

3. After you've created your .txt file, in Naiku, go to Assessments and select Import. Then click on Choose File to select your .txt file and then click on Start Import. Note that you'll have the option to set the grade, subject, and tags for your test and questions.
