Naiku has added a new math equation editor. To add a math equation or formula to your assessment, simply click on the "Equation Editor" button when creating a new item. This will bring up the Equation Editor.
As shown below, it is very simple and intuitive to use. Simply click on the type of number or mathematical symbols you want to use. After typing your equation, click "insert" to put the equation into the Naiku item.
Note that you can insert math equations into the stem and the answer choices.
Also note that if you want students to type in a math equation as their answer, simply use a constructed-response item type. Do not choose an auto-matcher. Math equations will not be auto-scored. Therefore, you as the teacher will simply see what the student enter and score it manually.
For example, you may have an item that asks students to enter an equation in slope intercept form. Here's how that item would be created.
Below is a screenshot of how students would enter their math equation when they take the test. The student simply has to click on the "Equation Editor" button. The Equation Editor will presented. This is where the student will enter his or her equation. After typing the equation, the student should click on "Insert" in put the equation into Naiku.
